Summary

Chaser is a book of poems that grows from the troubling premise that each of us lives in a state of pre-diagnosis. Our bodies are never under our control, and when illness strikes we must redraw the boundary between the well and the unwell, interacting with the world differently. In these poems, the experience of illness is applied to individuals, communities, economic systems, and travel between nations. In bracing, electric language and form, the book's three threads — one following a group of patients and a character known as Invalid, one examining a scientist's study of tuberculosis, and a third examining the language of manic economy — explore different notions of consumption, wellness, discovery, and growth.

Summary

I don’t want him. I can’t do this. That’s what my ex said after our son was born, leaving me a single dad. These days, my world consists of two things: Noah and my bar. Until her—the woman I want —but can never have. My ex’s sister wasn’t supposed to be stirred into the mix. Even though I try to push her away, my son falls in love with her. As much as I want to keep my distance, I can’t break his heart. Lines become blurred, and fighting our attraction becomes nearly impossible. Even though we know it’s wrong, desire doesn’t always fade away. As soon as we cross that line, nothing will be the same and everything will fall apart. And it does.

Summary

It began with a simple question: "One day I found myself asking my father, across the chasm between us, 'Hey Dad, you want to climb the highest mountain in Colorado?'" And for Nathan Foster and his father, Richard, that simple question changed everything. With no hiking experience to draw on, they embarked on a journey of physical challenge, discovering just how far they could push themselves. For Nathan a parallel journey took him inside himself. Having grown up in the shadow of a famous father, Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline, Nathan had a lot of questions about who his father really was. Would hiking open the door for him to get to know this distant figure? As the one-time experiment evolved into a decade of challenging hikes up Colorado's 14,000-foot peaks, the Fourteeners, Nathan navigated his twenties—finishing college, choosing a career, a possible cross-country move, the early years of marriage and a major personal crisis. Along the way he would discover exactly what his father could offer him. This book also includes an afterword by Richard J. Foster, author of Celebration of Discipline and coauthor of Longing for God.

Summary

Everyone knows you should never say never. Cooper Moore never saw Maggie Williams coming. She was just his best friend’s little sister, the curly-haired, freckle-faced girl from Mississippi who was absolutely off limits. And he never thought about her any other way — not until he saw her that night, broken and brave. From that moment on, he knew he’d do whatever it took to protect her, even if it meant he had to stay away. Maggie never expected to find her fiancé banging her maid of honor an hour before she was set to walk down the aisle, but life’s funny that way. The only option to save her sanity is to get the hell out of Jackson and move to New York where her brother lives. The only downside: Cooper is there too. And she just doesn’t know if she can stay away from him — the filthy rich, dead sexy playboy who’s allergic to commitment. The second Maggie sees him again, she realizes he’ll be impossible to resist. Luckily, commitment is the last thing on her mind, and Cooper is the perfect escape. As long as she can keep her heart in check, everything will be just fine. Because she can never have feelings for him. Or at least that’s what she’ll keep telling herself.

Summary

Welcome! You have just entered a new realm - a new Universe where there are worlds, races, powers, allies and enemies just waiting to be discovered. Your place may be with the wielders of Iro... or perhaps as a Traveler... it could be that your destiny lies on a ship flying through the stars... or straining your skills on a battlefield... maybe you're most suited to hours spent pouring over ancient tomes... or engaged in a game of chess that will shape the cosmos. Whatever your place - wherever your destination - you will find yourself... Beyond the Outer Rim In 'Star Chaser: The Traveler', the prelude to the series, we meet Z’GUNOK TEL DUNGIAS, a Malgovi born without the ability to channel IRO, an ability inherent in the vast majority of his race. As a member of a high-ranking family, he lived a life in-between... not truly an outcast, but never fully embraced. Often discounted and forgotten, Dungias was left to grow and learn primarily on his own. Yet the advantages of his family's name did not entirely protect him against those who considered him anathema. Through strength, daring, and unexpected cunning, Dungias created himself out of nothing - and worked toward the day when he could make changes... Little did he know just how far-reaching those changes would be! “A venturesome sci-fi/fantasy novel for readers who really want their action set where no man has gone before.” - Kirkus Reviews

So when the daughter of a family friend punches a ten-year old Tanner at a film premier and he runs to his mother for solace, the media had a field day mocking the poor boy. From then on, Tanner counted the minute till he could escape his childhood and carve a normal life for himself in the mountains of Montana, where no one would ever know that he once was known the world-over as the Weeping Wimp. That is until the girl with the mean left hook shows up in his one-horse town, and threatens to make his life a living hell.

Summary

This classic account is a dynamic and vivid record of what it was like to fight with Britain's Commandos across wartime. Peter Young, who joined 3 Commando in June 1940 and went into action with them in July of that year, sets down a spirited tale of adventure, heroism and ever-present danger in this valuable narrative of an elite force at war. Storm from the Sea is the commandos' story of war and describes a number of key Commando raids against targets in occupied Europe. The first amphibious operation of note was against the Lofoten islands and a second raid against Vaagso quickly followed. Despite a setback at Dieppe, the commandos continued to annoy the Germans with hit and run attacks and Peter Young's men participated in the invasion of Sicily and in operations in Italy until being recalled for D-Day. Hard fighting in Normandy followed and the author recalls the daily skirmishes and ambushes which, for the commandos, so typified the liberation of France. After a brief period attached to 3rd Commando Brigade in Burma, Peter Young ended his war preparing for operations in Malaya. The conflict had been a punishing adventure but, as he testifies in Storm from the Sea, his Army Commandos came through with a tremendous reputation for daring and stealth.
